Thank you for the response (and Katherine, too). After I saw
Katherine's reponse, I looked up Epogen, and saw that it is basically
the same as Procrit (different manufacturer). When I spoke again
with my vet, he said he was familiar with Epogen (has used it with
dogs) and so was more comfortable with trying it. We will run more
bloodwork on Hershey first, but may give this a try.
Hershey has been sick from the ADV (off and on) for over 2 years. He
is now 6 years old, and I know he will probably not be with me much
longer. I just want to give him as much quality time as possible.
