What kind of litter do you use? When I was using wood stove pellets,
I would occasionally notice that one of my girls would get a sore
vulva from wiping her bottom on the litter and getting some sawdust
pushed up into the vaginal canal, causing a minor abrasion or
infection. In the worst cases, oral antibiotics would be needed to
cure the problem. Usually cleaning the area and applying some
neosporin would take care of it.
Also, because I also have cats, and use clay litter in their pans, I
have sometimes had similar problems when a girl uses one of the cats'
pans.
I have switched litter, and I am now using horse pelleted food. It
is not as good at odor control as wood stove pellets, but does not
turn to sawdust when used, either. Since switching, I have not had
problems with my girls getting sore vulvas.
I hope Peyton's problem is something as simple as this, and not
something more serious.
