Subject: Petunia not eating
Please Help,
I have a 4 year old spayed female named Petunia that 10 days ago
decided not to eat her ferret food anymore. I am able to get her to eat
some duck soup ( 1 part ferret food and 2 parts water blended to a mush) and
Ferretvite. I took her to Vet a week ago, and the Dr. did blood work and
took x-rays. Everything in the blood looked normal, except her pancreatic
enzymes where low and on the x-rays there was a shadow in the area of the
pancreas and digestive tract. The Dr. could also feel some abdominal
swelling. With these findings the Vet said it look like pancreatitis.
There was a 24 hour fasting period and a coarse of Prednisone was
prescribed. One week later (yesterday) she is still not eating and her
energy level is starting to decrease. So the Dr. did some more x-rays and
the shadows are still present. This time Petunia was given an injection of
Dexamethazone. If she does not improve in a week this time, the only other
option the Dr. says is to do exploratory surgery. As far as Petunia's
history, she has recovered from a serious bout of ECE three years ago, and a
year ago had a ruptured spleen. If anyone has any suggestions or comments I
would greatly appreciate it.
Thank You,
KC
