Subject: Sarcptic mange and demodex!

In answer to the question if ferrets get either of
these, YES they do!!! We had a ferret at the shelter
who came with what appeared to be ringworm, turned out
she had both ringworm and the mange! The problem was
that by the time I realised, other ferrets that were
in a cage below her's, got it and I myself got it
also! Infact when I couldn't stop scratching, was when
I insisted that my vet take a look under the
microscope to confirm that it was sarcoptic mange and
he informed me it might not show anything! However I
persisted, so he looked and was astonished at the
results, mange for sure!
Also I had received an email from a young girl whose
ferret had demodex, she worked at a vets office and
periodically checked the ferret and they were having
great difficulty getting rid of it!
There is info. in both the Quesenbeery book and the
book by the Australian author,(which also has info. on
demodex! Both can be treated and sucessfully---Angela.
