Subject: Sammy is sneezy, coughy, and runny eyed :(
Sammy was given to me about 4 months ago. He was jsut
turning 3 years old, and was a full "stud". His owner
was diagnosed with active breast cancer that turned to
lymphomic cancer, and she brought him into the Humane
Society I manage.
I promptly had lil Sammy neutered- his not so lil
'nads were quite prominant, and he REEKED! :o
Shortly after this, he started sneezing once in a
while. His cage is not located near any drafts- I
checked with a candle. ;) He also coughs at times- a
HACK HACK HACK HACK cough. His eyes always seem a bit
too moist in comparison with Herman's. I have not
allowed Herman and Sam to play together, as I dont
want Herman to get sick.
I took him into the vet, and he said he had a virus
and all I could do it let it run it's course, and he
gave me Clavamox drops to give him for 10 days.
Well... he has been on Clavamox 2 times, Amoxicillin
once, and oxytetrycycline drops once, in 3 months it
has not gone away.
I have been very very lucky with my boys, that I have
not had any major problems like cancer in them, but
this cough and runny eyes and sneezing bugs me. I
feel bad.... The vet said his chest is clear, it all
appears upper resperatory.
Sammy and Herman share a home with a 6 foot green
iguana, 6 dogs, 8 cats, 2 hamsters, 2 hairless rats, a
rabbit, a cockatoo, one mother, one little brother,
one little sister, and me. Could he be allergic to my
little brother or something? :P I use scooping tidy
cat litter, and his cage has a solid plastic floor.
No pine or cedar chips. He will ONLY poo poo in the
scooping kind. I only use dishsoap and water to clean
things in his cage.
His poo poo is normal little squiggles like Hermans.
Nothing green, nothing soft. And he drinks plenty of
water! He pee pees the right amount too.
He weighs 4 pounds 3 ounces. He has ALL his fur. No
bald bottoms. YAY!
I feed my boys 8-1 pellets mixed with Nutro kitten
food, and give 8-1 soft treats and ferretvite paste
everyday. They also get treats of lean rabbit meat
when I cook that for dinner. They LOVE venison too!
Thanks for your help!
Carolyn, the ferret lover from the Northern MN
backwoods.
OH YES- I Am proud to be a redneck! My truck is
insured by Winchester though. :)
=====
If you consider that we cannot save them all,
and what difference does one make?,
you ought to know the joy of the one who is saved.
Mourn those we cannot save, it is a eulogy to their being.
Do not let their loss be in vain.
Please.... rescue a shelter animal today!
