I have (in cases of severe congestion from colds) used Children's
Chlortrimaton and Children's Dimetapp, all with my vet's approval.
Benedryl will only help with allergy problems. It is an
antihistimine, and not a decongestant. Dimetapp is pseudoepherine
hydrochloride. As others have pointed out, make sure you know all
the active ingredients, and get something that only has the
decongestant.
I only use these medicines if the ferret is really in distress from
congestion, though. They do not cure the cold, just help to relieve
some of the symptoms. Usually, I just use a vaporizer, which also
helps relieve congestion.
