You just witnessed what a lot of us call "Dead ferret syndrome". I'm
sorry you were frightened by it, but it is quite normal for some
ferrets. My first experience with it was about 20 years ago. My wife
woke me up screaming "Honey, wake up! Stinky is dead!" She was in tears
in a big way. I took Stinky's poor body and laid it on the bed and was
stroking her when she opened her eyes and looked at us like "What's Up?
What did I miss?" It seems to be an individual thing. Some ferret
ferrets do it a lot, some don't seem to do it at all.
