Cathie:
I have a ferret that has not yet gained any weight in the 2 winters since he
was born. He is just skinny. He actually doesn't shed any hair either. He
is the most active of our 3 ferrets, and we kind of atribute his low weight
to tons of activity. He eats, drinks, poops all normal, so we tend not to
worry too much about him.
I do have a suggestion for you, though. From what I have read here and in
books, ferrets are to have access to their food 24 hours a day. They are
grazers, they pick a little at a time and come back whenever they want a
couple more peices. Try leaving a bowl of food for him to get at all the
time, and after a few months see what happens. Even if he doesn't gain more
weight, I would definelty leave the food out for him.
Hope this helps some. If you need to talk to another "skinny ferret mom", go
ahead and e-mail me directly!
