When I brought them home there teeth
were just starting to show so I feed them my regular mix of ferret
foods
softened w/ some gerber chicken food. Since then they have almost
doubled in
size. My vet said that they need more foods for babies and he
asked me if
there are ferret foods for kits. As far as I know I haven't seen
any so
should I give them kitten food or just stick to what I am doing?
They also
got there first series of distemper. I told him about how I have
read that
they can have reactions to the shot and he said that it is just a
myth and
that he has never known of this to happen. My 2 kits are Cocoa
(dark sable)
and Ruby (albino). Had a hard time giving Ruby her shot, poor
girl. She
cried and put up a fight.

You're doing fine with the food. Regular ferret food softened so
that their little teeth can deal with it, possibly supplemented with
meat baby food or a/d, is just the thing. And as far as the vaccine
reactions, I'm very glad that your vet hasn't seen any so far, but
if he deals with many ferrets, he will. It is decidedly not a myth.

For their shots - try distracting them with something yummy as he
gives the shot. I generally use Ferretone or Nutrical, and the
ferrets tend to not even notice the needle pinch.
