Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] Blessing, Phenobarbitol & neurological

Forgive me if you get this twice. It does not seem to have gone through the
first time.

Hello Erin and Everyone;

No, Blessing has never been on valium. Dr. Started her on the pheno right
away. I just talked to him to let him know that I had received answers to my
query. He said that the valium does not stay in the body as long as the
pheno. The pheno does knock her out, but he told me that her body should
adjust and she will be ok. I sure hope so. I asked him about cutting down
the dose and he wants to wait to see if she starts acting more like a
ferret. I also asked him about a CAT scan or MRI-he said better than that
would be a PET scan. It measures the activity of the protons in the brain
and can see if they misfire. Unfortunately, he does not know anyone in the
area that does any of these tests on ferrets. Guess I will have to start
looking around. Dr. also wants her on Baytril, just in case there is an
infection going on, he mentioned meningitis.

Blessing does eat on her own, uses the litter pan and shows no other signs
of illness. Except for the fact that she is adrenal. I assume that surgery
is out of the question (?)

I would like to thank all of you that responded. Yes, I feel good knowing
that I am not alone with this. I feel a sense of relief. I have an answer.

Mary
