I asked Steve about PET (Positron Emmission Tomography)
scans. He said that the last he heard the cost of the machines
means that there are few. He thinks that a radioactive sugar is
injected and it maps the sugar usage so it can show what brain
areas are used. He said to take all of that "with a grain of salt or
sugar" because it's all rough recollections from a Sci Am article
a good while back.
