Ferrets are more "cold weather" animals than warm.
They do well outside in Europe all year round where they
are more likely to be kept for hunting. So, I assume your
house isn't actually 40 degrees (probably 60?) , and that they
have
someplace warm to snuggle, like old t-shirts, sleep sacks,
or pillow cases, and if they are like mine they sleep together
so that is added warmth. They will be fine, a heating pad
can cause burns or injuries since it can get too hot, and
maybe a ferret will chew the cord, etc.
Colds are caused by viruses, not by the weather, since people
are indoors and closer contact in the winter, and certain
viruses are around more in the winter you may see more
colds this time of year.

Hi I had wanted to ask a question about heating pads and
ferrets. The temp. here is in the 40's mostly, but I sleep
with the fan on due to asthma. My babies are in my room and
I was wondering if there was any way that I could put a
heating pad in the cage with them so that they all could
snuggle onto that. I was just wondering if anyone knows of
any dangers, before I try it. And another thing, how could
can it be for them, before they catch a cold?
Thanks.
