Subject: Thyroxine Dosage

To Angela:
Thank you for the info on the Thyroxine dosage. It seems I
may have to dose Sabrina a little more frequently after I
confer with her vet. Because her first T4 test was normal and
she has no other symptoms, it seems that we may not be dealing
with hypothyroidism, but are using the hormone as an agent to
effect weight loss. She is enormous.
Melissa has mailed me about a condition referred to as
Aggressive Fat Disease which may be what Sabrina has. If this
is the case, the Thyroxine may not work but we must still try
in the absence of any other ideas.
To Jen and Andre:
I think that if a ferret is being physically hampered by
excess weight to the extent of not being able to act the same
as before weight gain, that is a pretty fair indication of
obesity. Ferrets gain & lose weight so much according to the
season that I think it would be hard to work out a formula for
"correct weight".
