Subject: : Are annual vaccinations still necessary?

Yes, and include in that decision some research on the
rate of distemper seen in your area, call vets, humane
societies etc. to see how common it is, and if you
don't vaccinate take extra precautions, don't take
the ferrets outside for walks,
Call the vet ahead and make sure no dog with suspected
distemper has just been in before you go,etc.

Also, I have heard from many that have done mass vaccinations
at shelters, for years and have a much lower rate of reaction
than
3 out of 9- that is unusually high, and misfortunate, make
sure the
vet informs the vaccine manufacturer and other regulating
bodies
of the reaction.

Even if a ferret (or dog or cat) has never had a reaction to
a vaccination, it can and does
happen. Considering Linda's ferrets are over 6 years old,
she needs to weigh the odds
carefully, talk to a ferret knowledgabele vet, then make the
decision.
