Subject: Proglycem dosage

Does anyone know the maximum dose of Proglycem that can be used for a 3.5lb
ferret? I know the ferret books say 60mg/kg per day, but seems I have heard
of ferrets using higher doses. My boy is getting close to that dosage. I'm
having a real hard time keeping his glucose steady. He seems to have a
rapidly progressing insulinoma, as despite surgery and maximum pred, I am
having to increase his Proglycem about every other week. I have also been
breaking his dosage up and giving it to him every 8 hrs, instead of every
twelve. Would I be better off giving him a really high dose twice a day?
Maybe the pharmacist on this list can tell me how Proglycem is used in the
body? Is the theraputic range reached shortly after given or is it sort of
time released?

Thanks for any info anyone can share!
Julie
