Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Re: Are annual vaccinations still
necessary?

A lot of my kids are older. I also have / had Shelter Fosters with
medical conditions, unknown medical histories, and several over
5yrs. Policy is that they have their distemper shots. All my kids
(20 at present) are current on their distemper. Maybe I am just
fortunate that there has not been a reaction (all are pre-treated
before any vaccination).
I live in an apartment complex that has a lot of tenants with dogs,
go to petstores on a regular basis and go to the park regularly. My
kids may not go outside, I am concerned with what I may drag in

As a member of the very small 'fewer vaccinations' league :), I
would like to note that I have rarely had my 5yo or older ferrets
vaccinated against rabies or distemper. However, none of my pets
go outside, there is a very low distemper risk in my area, and
practically nobody but myself comes into contact with my ferret.
Additionally, almost every 5yo or older ferret *I've* ever had has
been afflicted with some chronic medical disease which made me
reluctant to toss vaccinations into the mix as well.
