Subject: Help, please. Buddy . . .
is losing the fight. I am so tired and just don't know if I should
make this one last effort. Let me summarize and please give me some
input asap, as we go to the vet today. I need to know which shot to
give.
Buddy came to me in August with 3 other rescues, all of who had
coccidia. He is about 5 and a half now. He was obviously adrenal and
we wanted to do surgery within the next month. But he was not up to
snuff and dropped from 2.25 pounds to 1.1# over the course of these 3
months. He has had 2 bouts of accupuncture, 1 round of Lupron and
continuous gravy feedings. He received sub-q fluids for awhile and is
off them now. He was eating and drinking on a cyclic scale, such that
he was up a week then down a week. It has been about a month now
since I was afraid I would come home and find him gone. I had my pet
sitter take him Friday and today - Friday I was hopeful that the
continuous care would get him up again and today I felt he might die
and I didn't want him to be alone.
He has had such hind end weakness over the past 2 weeks that he is
unable to use his hind legs. His rectum prolapsed, but we have taken
care of that so that it is okay now. He had urine burns on his legs
from spending the night in urine when he first stopped getting up to
go to the litter box. That has been soaked in Epsom salts and covered
with Neosporin and is now healing. He had 2 weeks of antibiotics for
that, too.
Just Friday I ordered a 2nd injection of Lupron for him, and it will
be here today. Perhaps he is too far past. He has the smell of death
now and he is so scrawny you can see almost all features of his
bones. His eyes were bright until Saturday and he was eating and
drinking until then. I told the sitter to just love on him and not
try to force him to eat. I have paid for the Lupron shot.
Should I try it since it is here, or is it time to quit trying and
keep the Lupron shot in case I need it for another later? Giggles is
getting the 4 mo. depot today. Please help me with this decision. If
there is a chance, I want him to have it. If, however, you think I am
using resources that can be better spent elsewhere for a battle that
can't be won, please tell me that too. I am too close.
Thanks.
