I'm a firm believer that our animals tell us when they are ready to
go. You can see it in their eyes.
Someone said to judge by whether they still enjoy their most favorite
treats or things to do. If they are finding no enjoyment in these
things, it's time.
When I was wrestling with Champ, someone reminded me that he was
never going to get better. He lost all quality of life and did
nothing but just lie around and watch the world go by, a mere shell
of my little Dennis the Menace boy. It was never going to improve.
Thinking that way gave me the strength to let him go.
I have followed these "rules" and have never had one minute of regret
(tears, yes) when I've decided to let them go.
Tell your little one about the Rainbow Bridge (if that helps). Mine
actually have seemed to listen.
My thoughts are with you.
