It doesn't HAVE to be done under general anesthesia. I just had the
teeth of oall three of my ferrets scraped and none of them required any
anesthesia.

The anesthesia of preference in ferrets is isoflurane. Nearly all vets
have it now.

There is always some danger when you put an animal under general
anesthesia. The risk are minimized when isoflurane is used.
