Hi all!
My name is Heather, I live in SW Colorado. I raise a breed of dog known as
Belgian Malinois (mal-in-whas) for police work, I also raise pedigree'd
dumbo rats for pets. We have a few other pets as well. I have 2 children
ages 9 and 6 and a baby (my last!) due in March. I am married to a great guy
named Casey. Before we moved back "home" to Colorado, we lived in Las Vegas
and owned 4 ferrets, Scoli, Whitey, Trixie and Reese. When we moved we
couldn't keep the little ones with us so we turned them over to the rescue
group in Vegas called 24 karat ferret. A couple of days ago we went to our
favorite pet store in town and fell in love with a little male ferret, they
had just sold his sister and he was all alone :o(. We resisted the
temptation to buy him at that time even though we took him out and played
with him (he was showing us how to open the cage door). My husband and I
come home and thought it over long and hard before going back today and
playing with him one more time and making our decision. Needless to say, he
is all paid for and they are keeping him until next Thursday for us! I
didn't want to bring him home in the middle of the holiday season and not be
abe to spend time with him. I am a little rusty on ferret care so any advice
would be nice. He is on Marshall's food but I will be switching him to
Mazuri asap. He uses a litter box very well, he is already descented and
neutered. I know to not bathe them but once every couple of weeks and to
keep their ears clean and their toenails trimmed. I am also aware of the
adrenal gland problems and have a good vet 70 miles away. Do they require
vaccinations at all amd which ones? Is it okay to let him out with cats in
the house?
