Hello Lisa,
I hope by now you have found Pumpkin? As far as the
kit goes, you MUST keep her confined to a very small
cage with little movement! If the X-rays showed
nothing, perhaps it may be just bruising and it will
need a lot of rest to heal, do not feel sorry and let
her out to play, make sure she stays as still as
possible!
Over the years, I have had many ferrets with broken
legs and some with broken backs and initially the
shock from the damage is very debilitating, however
after a few days that will wear off with the aid of
the Pred. and the ferret will adjust!!!
Once the swelling goes down from the injury, you
will be able to tell what the damage is! I have kept
ferrets confined up to 2 months, as it was the only
way to mend the broken peices and once recovered they
are as good as new!!!
On the other hand if it is a broken back then the
kit will never be able to walk on her back legs again
and you will have to express her bladder several times
a day. The bowel movements are expelled naturally but
if the bladder is not expressed, the danger of
infection is ever present, from the 'stagnant' urine!
If indeed you do find that the back is broken, I
will be more than happy to help you---Angela.
