I hope Sandy will be OK. What an incredibly painful injury that must
be! It makes my eye hurt just to think about it. I agree that
removal might be the way to go. Since ferrets don't rely on their
eyesight too terribly much, I would consider removal. Did the
Ophthalmologist (sp?) even discuss this with you? I wonder if (s)he
knows how poor a ferret's eyesight is. Discuss this with the doctor
and see if it's a possibility.

This once again points out the need to save for medical emergencies.
I think Sukie and I "preach" about this every chance we get. Ferrets
are incredibly high-maintenance animals. It's probably a good thing
I didn't know that or I might have never gotten my first one. Last
year (2000), I spent right at $4,000 at the vet's office. This year,
so far, I've spent $4,200. I say "so far" because Lany is scheduled
for adrenal surgery on Thursday. That will bring the total to
>$4,500. It is important to save for these things. Granted, I had
some unusual costs this year (Champ) but it seems I have one of those
every year.

Talk to the vet about working off the surgery. Surely there are
things you can do to help out. If the surgeon isn't agreeable to
that, put it on a credit card and pay it off as quickly as you can.
This doesn't sound like a surgery you can save for. I think it
probably needs to be dealt with quickly. And, when this is over,
start putting money aside on a regular basis for the next emergency.
Trust me....it will come.

Keep us posted on Sandy's progress, poor baby.
