What if a dog with distemper is brought to your vet's clinic while
you are in the waiting room? What if you pet or brush up against a
dog that is infected?

In 99.999% of cases, a ferret with distemper will have to be
euthanized to put it out of its misery if it doesn't die swiftly on
its own. That's a huge risk.

IMHO, the only time to consider not vaccinating is if a ferret had a
previous *severe* analphylactic reaction, if the ferret is seriously
ill, or if the ferret is on medications that are contraindicated for
vaccinations (such as Imuran). While it may seem harsh, you might see
consider consulting with a more experienced ferret vet in your area.
