Subject: Re: Proscar dosage information needed

According to my notes, the recommended dosage of finasteride for
prostatic swelling in ferrets is 1.0 mg per day for the first thirty
days then 0.1 mg per day. This is usually used in conjuction with
Lupron treatment.

You can use either Proscar or Propecia as they are both finasteride,
just different amounts. Propecia is a 1 mg tablet while Proscar is a
5 mg tablet. You might want to use Propecia for convenience since
it's already the right dose for the first 30 days. I am not aware of
any side effects, though that doesn't mean there aren't any.

This information came from a post by Dr. Jerry Murray. Which brings
me to the topic of searching the archives here.

I found out just last night that searching can provide some very
limited results if one doesn't understand how Yahoo is doing the
searching. Thanks to Pam Sessoms for her input on this.

When you search the archives, Yahoo does so in little chunks. There
are so many messages here that if Yahoo searched all 9,000 before
returning any results, you might give up waiting, thinking it wasn't
working.

So when you initiate a search, the initial result may return very few
or even NO messages. But you must keep clicking "Next" to search the
next chunk. Yahoo may only look at a few hundred messages at a
time. As you can imagine, with 9,000+ messages, it may take 20 or 30
times of clicking "Next" to search all the way back to the beginning
of the message base.

I know for a fact that you can find the dosage information for
Proscar/Propecia right here in the archives. I just found it myself,
but it took about 10 "Next" clicks to come up with the message my
notes came from.

I don't fault you for not finding it. This same apparent lack of
results has hit me too until I realized why it wasn't finding
something I KNEW was there.
