My vet put Ringo in a diet, because he is fat. His weight is about
1.3 Kg (I
think that is about 2.2 pounds ). He is 7 months old and 52
centimeters
(about 20.4 inches) long. Here in Chile where we live there are no
ferret
food, so all the ferrets eat premium cat food. Ringo was eating
Iams Kitten
(that was also what he was eating in the store) and now he is
eatin Hill's
r/d. He has to eat that for 21 days. He had no problem when I
changed his
food. He is eating normally.

I would not consider a two pound male ferret to be excessively
heavy. And I would never, ever put a ferret on Hills r/d food.
That is a diet for weight loss that is formulated to reduce calories
by reducing fat and protein, while adding fiber. Not appropriate
for ferrets at all, in my opinion. If he were mine, in that
situation, he'd be back on the kitten food (since no ferret food is
available), and I would keep a close eye on that coughing situation.
If he's not better by Wednesday, I'd get him looked at.
