Subject: Re: [Ferret-Health-list] Microchipping

The shelter I volunteer at chips all ferrets that are adopted out.
The chip they use is 2 stage (AVID I think). The owner can register
the chip, but the shelters name is ALWAYS on file. If the ferts
human cannot be contacted, then the shelter is.
They are also in the process of chipping all shelter ferts for easy
ID.
The shelter also scans all ferrets that come in case there is a
human out there looking for them. This includes all turn-ins
whether from a private party, another shelter, or animal control.
The vet that works with the shelter also scans all ferrets

Has anyone microchipped their ferrets? I would be interested in
hearing pros and cons. Is there one particular brand which is
more universal that the others?
I have realized that, in addition to losing one, I'm not so sure
that anyone would be able to sort all of mine out in the event
something happened to me. I used to have all different colors.
Now, I
have six living in one cage in varying shades of sable. And,
then, there's Miss Lany who is a Panda, turned DEW in her older
years. She lives alone so no problem there.
