Hepatic = liver
Toxins can be produced by many things: food which has gone bad, some
fungi, some bacteria, some parasites, etc.
You mention both liver and neurological symptoms. I may be
mis-recalling, but do you have ones which steal and stash potatoes?
I'm kind of muddle-headed today due to some dental problems and
dental work but *IF* memory serves the toxin that a number of members
of solanacae (nightshade, parts of tomato plants, parts of potato
plants, etc) produce affects BOTH the liver and the nerves. One way
to acquire that toxin is from potatoes that are beginning to bud or
growing. It occurs under the skin, at the potato eyes, and at the
buds, leaves and roots in such a situation if i remember right. *IF*
your ferrets steal and stash potatoes perhaps it would be wise to
look to see if they have a greening one somewhere.
Don't rule out a shared hepatic infection at this point, of course,
till the vet knows more but it would not hurt to check the stashes.
