Hi, everyone,

I always quarantine for at least 10 days before introducing a new
ferret. Here are the issues you should be concerned about AFAIK:

-Distemper. I assume your ferrets are up to date on their shots. They
have to be. The newcomer should have had a series of three. Coming
from a pet store he likely only has had one shot. You should schedule
the second with the vet during the quarantine period. If the pet store
arranged for second/third distemper shots they will have records.

-ADV. Usually not a problem with kits, at least in this area, but a
test never hurts.

-Ear mites. Almost all pet store ferrets seem to get ear mites. Make
sure he either doesn't have them or is treated before introducing him to
your ferts. Otherwise you'll be treating the whole business.

Congratulations on your new addition.

All the best,
Caity and the notorious nine
