Dr. Williams,
I posted a couple of months ago regarding my senior ferret, Lucy, and her l=
arge tummy. At the time she had no symptoms other than that and her appeti=
te was great. However, we were gone for the weekend, and when we returned =
last night I noticed that she has lost the use of her hind legs. She just =
drags them behind her. She still continues to eat, but I noticed when I got=
up with her during the night that she was grinding her teeth. Also, her e=
yes are narrowed as if she doesn't feel well. Her tummy is still large and=
looks as if there is an area on one side that protrudes more than the othe=
r side. I have not taken her to the vet, as the one I use here is very pes=
simistic when it comes to ferrets' health. He tends to want to "put them d=
own" sooner than later. I know that when I take her that that is what he wi=
ll suggest, and it may be the right thing to do at this point. I just want=
ed to check with you first. I personally do not feel that Lucy would be a g=
ood candidate for surgery due to her age. We have had her about 4 years an=
d have no idea how old she was when she was given to us. Will you please a=
dvise? Thanks so much.
