If memory serves we used a monosaturate oil rather than polyunsaturated and rather than mineral oil, due to the dietary problems mentioned in _Biology and Diseases of the Ferret_ for polyunsaturated, and due to the laxative and sometimes cramping effects of too much mineral oil. I expect that we either used canola oil or a cheap olive oil, probably the latter.
