a friend came to me with his ferret who on august 23 was lethargic, dehydrated and very warm, with pellet size poop which was green/orange in tint. i checked his tempature which was an alarming 106,a cool-warm slow dipping brought his temp down to 103. i hooked him to an iv to get fluids into him.
the ferret is just a year old, he is 2 1/4 lbs, marshall farms ferret. according to the owner he didn't get into anything, doesn't chew on anything and has been a very active healthy companion.i took him straight to the vets.he put him on amoxy, baytril, carafate and flagyl,to cover all infection.as of today august 28th we have ruled out ece, adv, lympho, insulinoma,&
cardio. his spleen is slightly enlarged but nothing to write home about.we are still waiting for his cbc to come back.
he is eatting a/d with pedilyte on his own which is an improvement, and his poops are the color of a/d and have become normal in size.when he walks across the floor he stays hunched and drags his butt on the ground the whole time walking. which still isn't much of a walk around. he still is spikeing 105 fevers once or twice a day.still is very lethargic.he has no other symptoms.we are looking for help.
someone mentioned meningitis but i have been unable to find anyone who has had it in a ferret. any ideas on what this could be? i have the vet trying to contact dr weiss and dr williams but he has not heard back yet.
