Hello,
I have posted periodically about Annika. The vet still believes that we a=
re dealing with Gastric Ulcers, she has finally relented and given me the b=
iaxin and sulcrate, but I can't no matter the kind of begging I do get th=
e amoxi to go with it. Other vets in my area are using her as their touchs=
tone as she is supposed to be the best on our island. Annika now has been =
on a variety of antibiotics for almost three months, she is getting letharg=
ic again. I have ordered the ADV test and expect it to arrive in a few day=
s, I am fearing the worst right now. The Vets have never given me a firm a=
nswer on what they think is wrong with her, and wouldn't rule out ADV but c=
laimed that it would cost too much to test her for it, so I ordered the Qui=
cktest off the internet. If it is ADV then at least I have an answer. The=
vets however say that because she is grinding her teeth and doing all the =
things that ferrets with Ulcers do that it has to be ulcers. Her glucose le=
vels are normal so Insulunoma has been ruled out. Annika is now rejecting =
all food (even the chicken and broth baby food) unless I force feed her wit=
h a syringe. I am not happy about doing this, but I am doing this, still s=
he seems to be loosing weight again. Up until a week or so ago she would s=
it and eat her dinner on my lap out of a bowl, now I am scruffing and stick=
ing a syringe in her mouth. I am at my wits end. Her poops seemed to be g=
etting normal and then suddenly returned to a tarry consistancy, now after =
another 2 weeks on the biaxin and sulcrate she has green and slimy poops. =
She is an only ferret and has had no contact with other ferrets for about 2=
.5 years... she is just over three (born Feb 11, 1999). She is my world, I=
adore her but this is killing me. It sounds horrible but the Flagyl seeme=
d to make her better even with all of its nasty nasty side effects. She is=
not drinking on her own anymore, all sustanance is comming from her feedin=
gs. Tonight I noticed that she is now having trouble walking, her poops ar=
e very runny and I am worried that she is getting dehydrated. I tried to f=
orce water into her, but it was hard to get into her. I need help, I need=
to know if I am doing something wrong, if it could be something else. I w=
orry about the natural Flora in her stomach having been destroyed by all th=
e antibiotics, she just seems so weak right now.... Feeding suggestions, al=
ternative meds, anything that anyone can think of would be greatly apprieci=
ated....
