Here in the U.S. so much of our meats are contaminated with E coli and
salmonella that it really isn't safe to feed raw meats.

We also find that so have very, very, very dark sleeping places in
the room they have (which we also use for some other things) and
when we have to put them in a bathroom due to illness, recovery
period, or vacuuming, we provide someplace dark due to one of our
favored hypotheses.

They are descended from crepuscular animals (dawn and dusk activity
high points), so that fits well into their background.
