My daughter purchased Smokey for me from a petstore because he was returned. The people could not stand the odor. Smokey did have a much stronger smell than any of my other ferrets.Nobody could ever tell why he had such a strong odor, but it subsided by the age of 3. His body oils were always much greater and stronger, too, and left very hard-to-clean spots on the carpet.

In retrospect, the hair loss between his shoulder blades at about 10 months was probably the first signs of adrenal disease. Although he was my gentle Smoker bear, Smokey was extremely aggressive in his last year of life. He was SO miserable that we had a 3rd adrenal surgery on him.

I lost him at the age of 4 and a half. We ran out of time before getting all the meds right.
