Hi All,

I am here again asking for information for my little guy Koda. I have come =
to you all several times with questions related to an unknown back injury. =
After several trips to the vet and several x-rays, we have come to the conc=
lusion that Koda is never going to be able to get around like the others,bu=
t he does not have spinal cord damage. Koda does have damage to his vertebr=
ae (sp?) and it is going to get worse has he gets older (he is 4 1/2 now) H=
e will have good days and bad days. Today was one of Kodas bad days, it is =
just killing me to watch him lay around and not be able to play with his fr=
iends. On days like this he only spends about 10 min engaged with the other=
4 ferrets we have. Koda has been given 3 different kinds of meds Prednison=
e which seems to have not effect, Diazepam which makes him want to run arou=
nd for a few minutes but he can't keep his balance then he sleeps for sever=
al hours, and Cosequin which I know does nothing for pain but is supposed t=
o help slow any further deterioration. What I really want to know is there =
any pain meds which will help him with his pain but not make him loose his =
footing and flop around it's almost as hard to watch that as it is to watch=
him just lay there. I have found it hard to discuss this with my vet. For =
some reason I get the feeling the vet doesn't think he is in very much pain=
but I just can't believe that he is just not the same little guy he used t=
o be and at 4 1/2 I don't think it is old age. I have two others that are a=
tleast a year older than he is with none of the same behavior. Any tips for=
kinds of pain meds or a new way to approach the vet with a request for pai=
n meds would be much appreciated, or am I just over reacting to the situati=
on? Could I be wrong? could it be somthing besides pain causing him not to =
play with the others??? If so any ideas would be helpful
Jen
