I don't know if surgery is not an option simply based on his age, so perhaps there's some other reason?

In any case, if surgery is definitely out, I understand that Propecia or Proscar works well in conjunction with Lupron for reducing prostate swelling. Those two drugs have the exact same active ingredient. The only difference is Proscar is a 5 mg tablet and Propecia is 1 mg.

The recommended treatment plan with either of these is 1 mg a day for a month and then 0.1 mg a day for maintenance.
