Subject: Swollen Vulva Continues to Baffle

A few months ago I wrote asking for advice on our female ferret (about 1-1/2 - 2 years old) with a swollen vulva. To date, this has been done for her: exploratory surgery for remnant ovaries - nothing found; 2 rounds of shots of Chorulon - no improvement; a "date" with a glass rod (by the vet) - no improvement; mating with an unneutered male - no improvement; and, today, exploratory surgery again. Both adrenals look fine; no evidence of disease. No evidence of ovarian tissue. Removed (a very little, as she is very little) fat material in ovarian area in case traces of ovaries are present. Vet has said all along that he hasn't seen this swollen of a vulva on a female due to adrenal disease (it is huge).
She appears to be very healthy. Has not shown any signs of illness. On occasion, the neutered male housed with her puts on a breeding display (to her dismay) as though she were in heat.
But this continues to perplex.
Does anyone have any ideas what this could possibly be due to? Or where to go next?
Thank you in advance for any ideas you may have.
