I guess I spoke too soon the other day about Bonzai's recovery. He had
seemed like he was doing very well, and as I said he was back to wanting to
run around and play over the weekend. However, he developed projectile
vomiting at around 3 a.m. on the 18th that was extremely intense in nature.
It didn't stop after several bouts, so after calling the vet for instructions
at 3:30 a.m., I gave him an injection of Torbugesic to try to calm him down
and make him comfortable until we could get him back up to the clinic. We
got there a fews hours later in the morning and new x-rays initially didn't
show anything other than a gas filled stomach, but a later set showed a weird
gas pattern in the bowel that looked like maybe there might be a stricture,
so after stabilizing him a bit the decision was made to open him back up and
try to find out what was going on.

The original perforation site was healed and the small bowel didn't look as
red or inflamed, but there were multiple new areas of friable tissue and/or
perforations throughout the bowel and large sections where the bowel lumen
was extremely thickened. There were also about 14 or 15 new lesions on the
liver that were not there during the first surgery only 14 days ago.

Based on all of that, I opted to not wake him up. A necrospy with pathology
was done and hopefully we will have results in a couple of weeks. It's
looking more and more like this probably was intestinal lymphoma or some
other really aggressive cancer though. I'll post results when we have them
for anyone interested.

Bonzai was a big, beautiful, happy boy who had just turned 3 years old in
April.
