I have a 2 year old neutered male who is suddenly losing hair on his tail and stomach. It is not typical adrenal hair loss as I work as a Vet tech and have seen many cases. The loss of hair is baffeling both to myself and the Vet I work for. Her only diagnosis is either early adrenal tumor or shedding. However another one of my ferrets is now also losing hair on his stomach only. I am concerned about some type of enviornmental effect on them. They live indoor/outdoor. They have indoor carpeting and dirt outside. I do not think they have mites even though they itch a lot. I have had them tested for the itching but again can't figure it out. The itching seems to come and go, but affects all of my ferrets, the hair loss is new to only two. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas please let me know.
Also to the person with the ferret with the swollen Vulva. I had a similar case a year ago with one of my girls and it turned out to be a bladder infection that was finally cleared up with Clindamycin after trying several antibiotics.
Thanks.
