What is commonly done in the sciences is if a number begins with a
decimal point then a zero is stuck in first so that the decimal point
will not be missed. That prevents accidents, misreading, and poor
vision errors. So, rather than .1 a person would write 0.1, with the
zero working as a very effective "heads-up". It's one of those
head-slapping "duh" tips that really works great.
