Actually, just now, I am remembering that there is also the
possibility that the weight gain and the thirst could also go back to
ascites so check possible causes like his heart (another thing which
would make you not want to give Pred, but would want to give other
meds).
Test first, diagnose later when enough info is in. Treatment must
depend on a firm diagnosis. Have to be careful to not put the cart
before the horse. I can tell that you love him dearly; you sound
very upset.
