The age statement is possibly based on the recommended ages that begin at 8 weeks for the vaccinations, given that most farm ferret are more likley to leave the farms between the ages of 5 and 1/2 to 7 and 1/2 weeks based on level of maturity, size, etc.. That recommended age was based upon an earlier idea from when it was thought that maternal antibiodies would be gone from teh kit's bodies' no sooner than 8 weeks. Sadly, I can't recall who did the study or wher eit was published so I hope that someone will jump in with that info, but I've been told by a vet of an actual study showing that around 6 weeks of age is more around when the maternal antibodies wear off, so starting the vaccinations at about that age should work fine.
If the statement is based upon something else then I have no idea what they were basing this upon.
