Hi Katherine,

This will be my last post on this topic as I am straigt out here with an
emergency case for surgery--
Well I am NOT a vet, never have been - only was a vet tech / assistant for
2 years previous -- but on Labs and testing- they have to know the titer
levels to test efficacy of the vaccine.

Which is required before USDA approval.

ACCORDING to a TX vet with a great ferret practice he agrees that when in
doubt a titer test is the way to go. When there is a case of possible
exposure to canine distemper they DO have ways to read the titer tests to
find out if: the ferret is post exposure to vaccine- post exposure to
active virus - active virus etc.

If they have tests to define those points- I darn well guess they (Labs)
can tell if there is immune response enough to protect the animal!

I always remember that first to do no harm is what the vets take as an oath
and try to incorporate that into our practices here.

I guess I am lucky enough to have vets who agree with titer testing! It is
worth the $40 to me rather than a anaphylactic response - possible death
and liver/ heart damage! I guess that is why I stick to the conservative
and prudent methods to do no harm!

Young ones get 2 CD boosters 30 days apart. Yes we have run titers for CD
vaccination in the past when CD was a suspicion.
