Subject: How do I know if my ferret's in shock?

I searched the archives but couldn't find exactly what I needed, so I'm going to ask you guys. Tonight I stepped on one of my ferrets (year old female) -- not with my full weight, but with some weight. She was between my feet and just got into the wrong place when my foot came down.

She ran and hid for a while, and then wouldn't move for a while, but looked alert. I took her to the county emergency clinic -- they refused to see her, since she's an "exotic" -- and on my way to the next county she began trying to dig her way out of the carrier. I took her out and she was struggling to get down to be nosy and seemed okay so I've brought her home.

She came in and ran around for a bit then fell asleep. My question is what are the signs of shock? What else should I be looking for as far as injuries? I have her here now and she seems to be sleeping with her buddies okay but I'm nervous. I would much rather wait until tomorrow to have her seen if possible by a REAL ferret vet -- none of the emergency clinics are that great (having had to use them in the past).

Any advice is appreciated.

Amy
