Hello everyone. I'm looking for some info resources or direct help from anyone that knows anything about kidney problems in ferrets. Any websites, etc. I'd even be willing to call people directly if anyone feels comfortable with that. I don't care about cost.
I just found out today her creatnine levels are at 12 while between 8 and 10 are normal (I'm in Canada). She had bloodwork done about 8 months ago, which was when the increased level was initially found. The recent one (urine test) was a follow up and confirmed my fears. Anyhow, anything about what to either try -or avoid - relating to diets, meds, environment, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Should I be avoiding duck soup altogether now? Do I need to decrease her protein intake drastically or at all? Are kidney problems similar between ferrets and cats? Or dogs for that matter? I was recently given a prescription for pediapred to see if it would help her "gasping attacks" which only happens every 2 or 3 months, however I've heard how damaging pred can be to the kidneys. I haven't tried it with her yet as I was waiting for this creatnine test, but is there something else out there that's used for (possible) asthmatic ferrets?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
Tootsie and mom.
