If you get a ferret in, test for ADV. The test is not 100%
accurate, there may be a period where the ferret was
recently exposed and may not be producing antibodies,
so that is why it is recommended to retest in 3 months.
Now, I don't have money to do this, so I test once
a year or so- if I get any new ones in during that year,
they are tested as they come in.

If you test a kit, lets say under 3 months and the test is
positive, it is true that you may not know for sure
if the positive is from mother's antibodies, or the kits'
own antibodies. BUT it still means at least the mother
was positive-scary enough. I would retest the kit
in a few months treating him as positive until then.
