Folks,
At great risk of making everyone completely sick of hearing about archives
searching, here is one more complication. There is built-in message
searching at the Smartgroups website; main problem is that it's not
complete, since the FHL was formerly hosted elsewhere.
HOWEVER! It gets worse. A sharp-eyed group member has noticed that the
built-in search at Smartgroups is not acting properly and is not pulling
messages known to exist within its own archive. I have done some testing,
and it is really, really not to be trusted right now. It simply isn't
pulling things up that it should be. I am giving it the official
Librarian's Seal of Disapproval for now, until it is fixed. *thwok*
*scowl*
So, at this time, the only working archive at all is the off-site archive
located here: http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/ and linked from our main
Smartgroups FHL page.
For the truly curious, here is an experiment to do to verify the
broken-ness of the Smartgroups archive. Go here (picking on one of my own
posts as an example):
http://www.smartgroups.com/message/readmessage.cfmgid=1423922&mesageid=1556
Note that the word "histopath" is mentioned both in the subject and the
message body. Now, put that word into the "Search Messages" box just
above the message, and click "search." Unless the system is fixed, you
will only retrieve one result, and it will NOT be the message above, that
should clearly have been found with that search.
SIGH!!
