Hi!
In regards to the clumped up Biaxin, was it compounded for you, or is it th=
e commercial liquid preparation? When I used to run a shelter, I used Biax=
in many times for stressed out ferrets with ulcers with no problems. Biaxi=
n is available in human sized capsules, or it is also available in a pediat=
ric liquid formulation. The liquid formulation comes to the pharmacist in =
a pre-measured powdered form, and all they do is add water. It has a frui=
t punch flavor that most (not all) of the ferrets that I gave it to took ve=
ry well. I just had my vet call in a prescription to Walgreens (pharmacy c=
hain), and picked it up from there. I did once get a bottle that was very =
chunky with clumps that would stick - I told the pharmacist about it and he=
said it wasn't supposed to do that, and to return it for a different bottl=
e.
In regards to being unable to obtain diazoxide, most pharmacies don't carry=
it normally, since there is very little call for it in human medicine. Ho=
wever, I have never had a problem with having a human pharmacy order it. I=
have obtained it from a local pharmacy, Wal-Mart pharmacy, and I know it i=
s also available through Walgreens pharmacy. They do usually have to order=
it, but that only takes a day or so. Its not cheap, but it has been worki=
ng great, and while I have no proof, just my observations and what I have h=
eard, I think that if you add diazoxide early on in the pred regimen, the c=
ombination of pred and diazoxide will work longer than if you wait to add d=
iazoxide after you have topped out on the pred dose.
Just my 2 cents.
Dooks to your fuzzies,
