Luckily, we have not been in the situation of marked pain post-surgically, just the normal one to three day tiredness with some pain, no matter what the age.
Is the ferret showing signs of pain beyod normal recovery signs like crying or moaning (including in sleep), grinding teeth, etc?
Have you reported this to your vet?
I do recall, though, that earlier in the FHL there was an interesting discussion which vets took part in on which meds they prefer for pain control post-surgically for ferrets when that is needed. The FHL Archives will help you in that regard:

Personally, we fidn that putting a towel on one's lap and slowly hand feeding (often meat baby food or a/d from fingers) with music and signing to the ferret really help.
