My 4 year old Sparky had a bilateral adrenalectomy, the first (by surgical removal) was done in Dec 01 and the second(cyro)in April 02. He has done very, very well on his Florinef. The Florinef .03mg is suspended in a cherry flavored solution and he has been getting .5cc bid. My vet suggested taking him down to once a day but I took him down too fast and there was marked lethargy and diarrhea. I am now tapering slowly, about .05 every two weeks or so. He is down to .4 bid but I have noticed him slowing down (no diarrhea or decrease in his food intake, though).
I wouldn't think that small a change would produce any noticiable effects? Do I need to get him down to once a day or to every other day or can he stay at the .5 bid for his life without any fear of side effects from the steroids? And, if he should be bumped up to the .5cc, do I need to do that slowly or just do it on his next dose. I will be getting an electrolyte, etc. panel within a month or so. Thanks for your input.
Earlicks and toebitings to all,
Trish
